Well, this has always been a blog about art right?, and lately I... had the honor to direct and produce the Photo Session of a Band named SIGNOS. The integrants are friends of mine, the voice is Maureen Garcerant and the bass is Rommel C. I don't remember his last name. Either way, this small article is a sort of MAKING OF the Signos Photoshoot, where I will being to explain all the little details behind every picture and the reason why every picture looks they way it looks.
Let's get started!!!
On a Thursday morning, I went to my friend Maureen's house (vocalist), and we not only were laizy but also NOT ready. I needed:
White sheets
adhesive tape
A pair of earphones
Ribbon tape
And to my surprise, since Rommel is very methodic, He didn't get any of these things. It was funny to spend about 1 hour trying to figure out wether or not he should go back home and bring them up where we were. But that would've taken 2 hours (no exageration) therefore, we agreed on taking a taxi so he comes home earlier. When he came, well... we were all hungry.... so we went for lunch.
Yeah, I had a huge plate of beans and rice with lots of chicken, costed me $4.00 and I don't regret it. :)
Of course, I wasn't in the best of moods to be honest, but it did actually distracted me a little from thinking, though I know it may have seemed as if it wasn't. ( Sorry guys for my constant serious face)
By the way... POLL:
Do I usually look like I'm upset?...
Back to the topic, when I started the session, well... the integrants were a little rigid. It can take a while before someone gets used to the camera, the feeling of someone wathching you up close, or far, or from the sides.. getting near you, expecting you to smile or do something that spontaneously comes out as a "great shot", can be very stressing. Which is why I took advantage of the fact that these two, are good friends, and I know them too.. so I sort of made conversation and tried to catch them in the act of smiling... being themselves and not posing.
As most of you know, my work is based on that. Spotaneity...
Why?, well, for me.. spontaneity is one rare thing that not everyone has. Things can happen randomly or someone can say something out of nowhere but some people... just some people can actually be the exact core of themselves at some points in life that it's beautiful to hear someone speak... and being able to watch their soul at the same time. It's why I prefer catching people unaware of my presence. Though many know I'm there, but those who know the real me holding a camera, means DON'T LOOK AT ME... PRETEND I DON'T EXIST..they just simply ignore my existance.. and I'm happy.
In these case it was a bit difficult cause there were a lot of things in my head, I couldn't concentrate, but in the end, I did get some great shots out of these two. Even when I thought I didn't.
Photography teaches me something valuable beyond the techniques.
It shows me that people aren't the same when they know someone's looking at them.
It's hard to be natural or yourself, with all your flaws and virtues when someone's spotting you with a lense. I recently realized I'm being spotted as well... and I guess it's hard for me to do what I want or be the way I think I should be knowing someone else is sort of... following my trace. The good part is that in this case, I was holding the camera.
Well, this Band, to make a long story short, has just begun to flutter its wings, preparing themselves for the big first flight to an abism of possibilities. I hope my work, serves as a small pat on the back, needed to reasure that they won't fall but fly high.
I believe I still have a lot to learn, but all my efforts were put in this session.. and I'll leave you all with the recent results.
Thank you for visiting VudenDoll.blogspot.com.
